Our Story

When our son Jack was born with Down syndrome, we found out we had a lot to learn. Not just about the best way to nuture our child so he would grow up as healthy as possible, but about the whole world of special needs. One thing we learned, children born in some countries who have special needs generally don't go home with their mom & dad. They go to baby orphanages. We have decided to adopt one of these little angels, a beautiful girl with Down syndrome. We found our new daughter through an organization called Reece's Rainbow. They advocate for these little ones, trying to get them into the arms of their forever families. Please go visit. There is a button on the left. These children will touch your heart.

Day 7

I hate not having internet.  We were able to use our landlady’s computer for 2 days (only wanted to check e-mail and let our family know we’re still here) and today we set out in search of an internet cafe.  We found one, but no wireless internet so still was only able to use their computer and no uploading of pics.  We’re going to try to go to McDonald’s tomorrow, and see if they have wifi so we can send all these posts off.  How cool would that be??

Today we had our 2 visits, morning 9:30 – 11:30 and afternoon 4-6.  She’s adorable.  I was worried it would take a few days for her to get used to us but I think she’s okay with us already.  She has the cutest little voice and I can’t wait to inspect her toes, they seem so small inside her too-big blue leather walking hi-tops.  (I measured her foot M, she was wiggly but we think she measured 4 1/4 inches!)  We got her to “pound it” in about 20 mins this afternoon!

The other thing I wanted to mention – we are staying far enough away that we have a driver daily.  Approx $38 per day for the apt and $30 for the driver.  If we have any errands to run it will be more for the driver but so far food, money exchange, and internet is within easy walking distance.  We spent about $.67 for 1 hr of internet time this afternoon and the same for a bottle of Coke!  Not bad.

And now, our pics from the day:

We have an adorable video I’ll hopefully figure out how to put on here too!
