Our Story

When our son Jack was born with Down syndrome, we found out we had a lot to learn. Not just about the best way to nuture our child so he would grow up as healthy as possible, but about the whole world of special needs. One thing we learned, children born in some countries who have special needs generally don't go home with their mom & dad. They go to baby orphanages. We have decided to adopt one of these little angels, a beautiful girl with Down syndrome. We found our new daughter through an organization called Reece's Rainbow. They advocate for these little ones, trying to get them into the arms of their forever families. Please go visit. There is a button on the left. These children will touch your heart.

Day 10

Today we stollered our baby for the first time!

101

She loved it!  We walked around for at least 1/2 an hour.  When we would stop she would try to rock, like “let’s get a move on you guys!”.  Then we swung a little.

102

Usually she sits and holds on very well but today she was feeling adventurous, I think.  Then a little PT:

She loves walking too.  After our visit, we tried McDonalds again and I think I mentioned how nicely that worked out!  We’ll be visiting there again soon!

We had planned to go grocery shopping during our recess but the internet took up all our spare time.  We could go to the “supermarket” but it’s too far away for walking and our driver is already expensive ($30 p/day) so we’re going to try one of the many little markets located nearby.  (BTW, if you need anything from a pharmacy, look for “ANTEKA”.  The second letter isn’t really an N, but looks close.  They are EVERYWHERE and carry pretty much everything you can get at Walgreens – except make-up!)

Our second visit we got to stroller again for a bit.  Then we visited a playground we visited before and sat and watched a little Babysongs again, and let our girl enjoy a bit of apple juice again.  We’ll keep giving her about 4-5 oz if she wants it.  She leaks a lot so I’ll be getting those nice Carter’s bibs I had for Jack that absorb and have a layer of plastic so their little shirts don’t get wet.  We stayed outside about 45 mins to an hour until it starts to get dark, then went inside and sat on our usual couch.

109 She tried to eat her overalls, so we gave her this again:

I think she likes it!  And then, a little planning:

And finally, anyone want to guess what’s happening here??

And at the end of the day we did a little more laundry and had our usual cup of hot chocolate.  I brought some instant stuff from home and they have these really cool “kettles” that plug in and boils water in minutes.  The cups here (in this apt) are tiny so I make 1, then dump half into another cup and fill them both with more water.  It’s perfect!

And we do have satellite tv here, but there’s only 2 channels in english, ESPN Europe (which runs the 2006 strong man competition daily) and RTG – Russian travel guide which is just oh so exciting.  But while flipping channels this evening, guess what I found:

HAHAHAHAHAHA!

  1. I am so thankful for McDonalds!! Without it, we wouldn't get to see any of this beautiful little girl. I love the "knuckles". At least that is what we call it in our house and Ella does it very well....maybe we can get them to do it to each other. I can't wait to see your first picture of Dashlyn and Jack together...sigh, how much longer do I have to wait???

Do you not have kettles like that in america? That just looks like a normal kettle to me lol.
