Our Story

When our son Jack was born with Down syndrome, we found out we had a lot to learn. Not just about the best way to nuture our child so he would grow up as healthy as possible, but about the whole world of special needs. One thing we learned, children born in some countries who have special needs generally don't go home with their mom & dad. They go to baby orphanages. We have decided to adopt one of these little angels, a beautiful girl with Down syndrome. We found our new daughter through an organization called Reece's Rainbow. They advocate for these little ones, trying to get them into the arms of their forever families. Please go visit. There is a button on the left. These children will touch your heart.

Day 5

Woke up on the train.  Made ourselves use the bathroom.  The floor was wet and it was stinky but it got the job done.  (Take wipes, tp, &/or tissues!)  The attendant came around and asked if we would like coffee or tea and we asked for tea.  Look how it came:

Look how fancy!  Only $.75.  The little yellow packets are sugar.  The train arrived right on time and 2 facilitators were there to meet us.  Right away, we went to see the Social Worker who asked us some questions and was really nice!  Then………we went to the orphanage!  (See previous post)  First we saw the orphanage lawyer.  Same questions.  Then our girl!  We only had a few minutes with Dasha.  Then we saw the orphanage doctor who read or explained to us all of Dashlyn’s medical history.  We got to ask questions and I think it was pretty comprehensive.  Some of it we not have understood what they meant except she had nearly the same issues as Jack at first so we understood.

After the orphanage, we visited the notary.  Lots of sitting.  Lunch at a pizza place – one med pizza with ham and sausage, one water and one Coke – under $6!  Off to buy diapers for Dashlyn and a few groceries for us.  Then we visited our new apt here.  Very nice, pics soon.  Nothing else that day!  Finally got lots of down time and we got plenty of sleep.
