Our Story

When our son Jack was born with Down syndrome, we found out we had a lot to learn. Not just about the best way to nuture our child so he would grow up as healthy as possible, but about the whole world of special needs. One thing we learned, children born in some countries who have special needs generally don't go home with their mom & dad. They go to baby orphanages. We have decided to adopt one of these little angels, a beautiful girl with Down syndrome. We found our new daughter through an organization called Reece's Rainbow. They advocate for these little ones, trying to get them into the arms of their forever families. Please go visit. There is a button on the left. These children will touch your heart.

Family Night at school

It was only an hour, but Madelyn, Allan and I got to go with Dasha to her classroom the other night and see her in action.  According to the teachers, our little miss likes to be “teacher”.  She turns on the music and knows where the accompanying toys or instruments are.  She moves around the room with such purpose (even though she’s still so wobbly!).  She greets all her little friends with big hugs.  We’re trying to actually tone that down, but it’s so sweet.  (One little super shy guy loves it; he gets the sweetest smile when she catches him in a big hug!)

We built some cute little cars donated by a local home improvement store (Dasha was a very enthusiastic hammer-er – eek!) and the kids played a few games set up.  At the end of our visit the kids sang some of their favorite songs and I got a little video of Dasha instructing Daddy on some of the motions to “Wheels on the Bus”:
