Our Story

When our son Jack was born with Down syndrome, we found out we had a lot to learn. Not just about the best way to nuture our child so he would grow up as healthy as possible, but about the whole world of special needs. One thing we learned, children born in some countries who have special needs generally don't go home with their mom & dad. They go to baby orphanages. We have decided to adopt one of these little angels, a beautiful girl with Down syndrome. We found our new daughter through an organization called Reece's Rainbow. They advocate for these little ones, trying to get them into the arms of their forever families. Please go visit. There is a button on the left. These children will touch your heart.

What to do…..

The dossier has been compiled, apostilled, mailed off to EE, and submitted.  We can do nothing but wait and get a travel date.  Except…….make packing lists, create schedules for the kids and their caretakers while we’re gone, clean and organize the house, try to raise more money for adoption expenses, and oh yeah, finish the girls’ room (the girls’ room, eeeeeee!!!)!

Here’s what part of it looks like right now:

002

M picked out the colors, and we had a heckuva time finding the comforters that would suit!  We still have more organizing to do, shelf hanging, setting out decorative items, stuff like that.  But the walls are painted, bunkbeds assembled and made, and rug unrolled.  M is estatic, to say the least and I will add more pics later this evening.

Oh, and to explain about the bed.  D is 2 1/2.  I had no easy time deciding about crib vs. bed.  We finally decided to go with the bunk beds because of space considerations, with the addition of a study bed rail along the outside edge that we will put into place closer to coming home time.  It was a difficult choice and we may end up using the pack n play for awhile but we’re open to changing our minds at any time.  I am happy the girls will be sharing because I’m sure D will be used to sharing a room.  I hope she likes it!  If it were up to me, the room would be pink toile with white :).  But even I think it turned out really pretty!

  2. D will love the room. Think how beautiful it will be to her, and such a comfort to have her big sister to keep her company and make her feel safe through the night. She is one blessed little girl.

Praying you travel date comes quickly!!!
