Our Story

When our son Jack was born with Down syndrome, we found out we had a lot to learn. Not just about the best way to nuture our child so he would grow up as healthy as possible, but about the whole world of special needs. One thing we learned, children born in some countries who have special needs generally don't go home with their mom & dad. They go to baby orphanages. We have decided to adopt one of these little angels, a beautiful girl with Down syndrome. We found our new daughter through an organization called Reece's Rainbow. They advocate for these little ones, trying to get them into the arms of their forever families. Please go visit. There is a button on the left. These children will touch your heart.

So Much to Catch up on!

We have left the US!!  The last week before our departure date was crazy.  So much to think about, pack, prepare.  There was not much time to blog.  Now had I been more efficient, I would have been packed and ready last week and just enjoyed every last second with my kids before our departure but noooo.

So our departure was Sat, Oct 30.  Arriving in Dashlyn’s country Sun afternoon.  SDA appt will be Mon.  If I have internet I’ll check on RR to see if anyone wants to meet for dinner.

Our adventure so far consists of a 3 hr early arrival at the airport.  Finished with check-in and security.  Left boarding pass at security but retrieved it (whew).  Sitting at the gate 2 hrs early.  Called everyone we know on cell phone.  (slight exaggeration)  BORED.  Uneventful flight to Charlotte (nice airport btw – free internet!).  Long wait for the next flight to Germany.  Ate a $7.49 chicken wrap.  Boarded Lufthansa and rode in a little tiny seat for 8 hrs!  Watched 3 movies while finishing Dashlyn’s photo album.  Ate yucky chicken (if you get a choice between pasta or chicken, take the pasta!).  Watched 2 tv shows.  Slept 20 mins.  (This is me, Allan slept much longer!)  Had to go through security when we got off the plane (???) and spent $20 on a bottle of water (when they say they will take dollars but the rest will be in Euros, that means you will get Euros for change and they won’t give you your money back).  5 hr wait in no internet airport.  Go to board the plane – they changed gates so we ran to the correct one.

Short uneventful flight.  Got off the plane into stale cigarette smoke land.  There are 3 choices for a line to get in when you’re off the plane, ****resident, Visa, non-Visa.  There was no one attending the non-Visa line so we went through the Visa one.  Cranky attendant but no problems.  Show your passport and off you go!  Met Nico outside baggage claim (couldn’t be nicer), got groceries and a phone, and getting ready for bed in a nice apt with internet!  Allan is obsessing over the money change (someone needs to – I’m too tired!) and I’m trying to hook up with some other RR families in the area.

Pics of our apt tomorrow!
