Our Story

When our son Jack was born with Down syndrome, we found out we had a lot to learn. Not just about the best way to nuture our child so he would grow up as healthy as possible, but about the whole world of special needs. One thing we learned, children born in some countries who have special needs generally don't go home with their mom & dad. They go to baby orphanages. We have decided to adopt one of these little angels, a beautiful girl with Down syndrome. We found our new daughter through an organization called Reece's Rainbow. They advocate for these little ones, trying to get them into the arms of their forever families. Please go visit. There is a button on the left. These children will touch your heart.

One year ago Today…

we met Dasha for the first time ever!  It was the first time I ever saw her with my own eyes, and held her in my own arms.  And she felt exactly like I imagined she would.

Dasha has grown so much! Her feet were floating in size 4 shoes - this morning I bought her size 7! (Granted, we had to get bigger ones to accomidate her inserts, but still!)  She was wearing 24 mos. tops and 18 mos. pants, today she wore a 4t top(!) and 24 mos adorable jeans. She has hair! She has enough signs that I lost count and although she has no actual words, she understands pretty much everything we say to her (even things we are trying to keep under wraps, like "candy"!). She talks a lot, we just don't get the words! She drinks out of a straw cup like a pro and is working on spoon and fork self feeding (if I left her to it she wouldn't starve but about 1/2 of the food would hit the floor, the chair, the girl, the dog...). She so funny and sweet. We wouldn't trade her for anything and yes, we'd do it all again. And we do have some crappy days, but no more than we would have without her.

So here’s her before:
