Our Story

When our son Jack was born with Down syndrome, we found out we had a lot to learn. Not just about the best way to nuture our child so he would grow up as healthy as possible, but about the whole world of special needs. One thing we learned, children born in some countries who have special needs generally don't go home with their mom & dad. They go to baby orphanages. We have decided to adopt one of these little angels, a beautiful girl with Down syndrome. We found our new daughter through an organization called Reece's Rainbow. They advocate for these little ones, trying to get them into the arms of their forever families. Please go visit. There is a button on the left. These children will touch your heart.

Quick Update

Finally we're done with Dashlyn's evaluations for therapies! OT last week and speech and PT this week. They changed the birth to 3 program so now whoever comes to do the evaluations becomes the therapist, which I like. ALL of them seem to think D is doing much better than they thought she would be (me too). So that's exciting! Unfortunately, since Dasha's birthday is the end of March we'll only a couple of months of home-based therapy before her care gets transferred to the school district. At that point she'll have to go the pre-school and I've already told them I'm not sending her until she's been home 6 months. She would probably do fine but I just want to err on the side of her knowing that we are permanent. I think that's most important right now.

My MIL wanted to have a "Welcome" party for Dashlyn. We did that last week, just before New Year's Eve. It went well. Dashlyn fit right in with her many cousins (she's # 17) and everyone told us how wonderful and cute she is. No surprise there, right??

And I wanted some kind of announcement for Miss D's arrival into our lives, and found one I liked on Shutterfly. (Loving that site, btw!) So I think I'm going to use them as thank you's for all the lovely gifts we've been given for the girl! If I can figure out how to post it I will.

But until then, here's a peek at one of the pics we used on her card!

  1. She is such a cutie!

Do you have to send her to preschool? I know where I live if I didnt send my daughter to preschool we had in home therapy. Only if she went to preschool would they go there. Maybe they would do that for you. It was nice because my daughter is not ready for pre school.

    Be blessed

  2. OOOOOOOOOH, I love her!!! That picture of the three of you is precious!!! We are getting Sosie's therapies lined up through the county too. Victor won't get evaluated until March because our school district is so far behind. :( Oh well, at least it's something!!!

And, yes, we do have good days with Victor, but he is still really non-participatory with us. So, a "good day" for him is him maybe coloring a bit, not crying, returning our hugs, etc.... We'll see... :)
